Conductive Keratoplasty, also known as CK®, is a vision correction procedure we offer at our Chicago, Illinois area practice. CK® eye surgery can be recommended to correct hyperopia (farsightedness) and presbyopia (age-related farsightedness). Farsightedness affects near vision, requiring those with this condition to rely on reading glasses to see objects at close range. While hyperopia can affect patients of all ages, presbyopia is an age-related condition that typically occurs after the age of 40. As patients age, the lens of the eye gradually loses flexibility, hindering the ability to focus on near objects. CK® can help our Chicago, Illinois area patients experience clearer vision, reducing the need for glasses or contact lenses.
Our Chicago, Illinois patients who undergo CK® eye surgery will be evaluated prior to the day of surgery to determine the exact amount of corneal tissue that needs to be removed during the procedure. We use radio wave energy instead of a laser to resculpt the cornea and correct visual aberrations. A small probe administers the radio wave energy to the outer edges of the cornea in a circular motion. This technique increases the curve of the cornea, allowing light to focus more accurately on the cornea. Our patients have experienced excellent visual results after CK® eye surgery.
