ReSTOR®, ReZoom™, and Crystalens® IOLs at Kovach Eye Institute in Chicago

IOLs are artificial lenses that can be used to replace the lens of the eye in patients with cataracts and presbyopia (age-related farsightedness). While earlier intraocular lenses only offered vision at one distance, our practice now employs the multifocal lenses of ReZoom™, crystalens®, and ReSTOR®. ReSTOR®

The Acrysof® ReSTOR® lens utilizes apodized technology that measures the width of the pupil at its largest and smallest points. One of the ReSTOR® lenses uses these apodized rings in the implant to focus on objects at close range. The other is a refractive lens used for distance vision. The ReSTOR® lens is not dependent on the muscles of the eyes for its focusing power, making it an excellent option for patients with presbyopia. ReSTOR® provides patients with consistent results. Crystalens®

The crystalens® IOL uses a pair of hinges located on each side of the focusing portion of the implant. The hinges are designed to work with the muscles of the eye to move the implant backward and forward to focus on objects at all ranges. The hinges are easier for muscles to move when they have lost flexibility due to presbyopia. The crystalens® implant is also a good option for cataract patients choosing an IOL, and has been successful in producing clearer vision in those with this condition. ReZoom™

A refractive IOL, ReZoom™ distributes light across five optical zones to produce vision at all ranges. A recent study found that 93 percent of patients who have undergone an IOL procedure with ReZoom™ have reduced or eliminated their dependency on glasses and contact lenses.
